Sign posts: Help students read observantly and think about their responses
Essential questions: Anchor each unit and prompt students to think about the text
Engage Your Brain activities: Get students sketching, writing, and discussing key ideas
Choices activities: Give students the opportunity to choose how they demonstrate their understanding
Assessment
The program includes formative assessments, peer reviews, and Reflect on the Unit questions.

Teachers can use differentiation tools and unit planning guides to tailor the unit to their students' needs.
Support
The program includes selection summaries in multiple languages, as well as multilingual glossaries of literary and informational terms.
